How to set the perfect New Year goals
It comes to this time of year, every year, when people set vague meaningless targets for themselves. The one I hear most is “I want to lose weight and get fit”.
The first question you should ask yourself is how much weight and how fit? Then ask yourself by when?
If this is the first time you have thought about getting out there and changing something, or maybe you have tried it before and not quite managed it, then start in small chunks. Try “I am going to lose a pound this week by eating a bit less” or “I am going to go for a brisk walk twice this week and I’m going to try a few steps of running in it too”.
These targets are achievable, measureable and you have a definite deadline (7 days). The next week you can try and achieve the same again (which is another great achievement in itself) or you can add a few more steps of running or try drinking more water every day.
One thing to remember is that it can take a long time (up to 120 days!) to make a lifestyle change, so stick at it. Every week you can achieve your goals is another week closer to the new you.
So, do yourself a favour, set a resolution that you can stick to and you’ll be proud of achieving it!
